I-55 Pedestrian Mobility and Safety Improvements
MDOT is requesting funding to implement pedestrian infrastructure along a section of the I-55 Corridor in Jackson, MS, to reduce pedestrian fatalities and improve accessibility.
MDOT is seeking $19,947,355 in funding to design and construct pedestrian infrastructure on the I-55 Corridor.
The project aims to provide pedestrian infrastructure to over 29,000 Mississippians living in the project area.
Currently, there is no pedestrian infrastructure along a three-mile stretch of I-55 and its Frontage Roads.
The lack of pedestrian infrastructure and safety measures has contributed to 18 pedestrian fatalities in the area since 2019.
The proposed improvements include sidewalks, pedestrian facilities on bridges, raised medians, marked crossings, and safety signage.
